About the Unit

The Self-Harm Unit at Östra Hospital is tasked with providing national highly specialized care for patients with difficult-to-treat self-harm behavior. Patients arrive at the unit from all over the country through planned admissions via referral. All care is based on voluntariness and a willingness to change.

Patients on the ward are offered psychotherapeutic treatment adapted to individual needs and cognitive functioning. The treatment period ranges from 18 to 24 weeks, during which patients have access to a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses, psychologists, care assistants, treatment assistants, social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and dietitians. Patient involvement in various forms is an integrated part of the ward's work, including peer support.

The care process is permeated by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is set in an milieu therapeutic context. In addition to inpatient treatment, we also work with outward-facing initiatives such as consultation to therapists, education, and supervision. The unit conducts research related to the patient group and works with continuous development according to our mission.

We also have care places for patient-initiated admission. This form of care means that patients who contact a psychiatric outpatient clinic on their own initiative can admit themselves for shorter care periods. They then sign a contract with the outpatient clinic and the ward and can be admitted without a doctor's assessment and without having to go through the psychiatric emergency department.

From November, in the event of high occupancy on the Affective Clinic's wards, we will temporarily support by taking over patients in need of traditional psychiatric inpatient care due to lack of space.

The ward is the first of its kind in Sweden, which means there are great opportunities to engage in the further development of the ward's mission as well as in ongoing research projects.

Responsibilities

Using DBT and the DBT Skills System as methods, you work in a team with other colleagues to coach, teach, and support the generalization of skills. You work closely with the patients and follow them in their treatments by planning, organizing, and carrying out various treatment activities together with the patients on and off the ward.

In addition to contributing to the patients' psychotherapeutic treatment, you are also responsible for the daily routine associated with a 24-hour care ward, as well as somatic nursing tasks such as checks, blood tests, and wound dressings. We are now looking for care assistants for two positions located during day, evening, and night shifts, with weekend duty four out of ten weekends.
